National / International Competitions
NEWS Final Report 2010 - by Luke David (VEWSA)
A
national competition is held annually with most States and
Territories participating.
A
Victorian team of six players is selected from our local
competitions. Victoria has enjoyed considerable success
at this level with a number of players being selected for
the All-Australian team. Victoria has also won on numerous
occasions the Roger Melnyk Trophy for the best overall team
performance at national championships.
Victoria's record as national hockey champions over many
years has been an outstanding achievement. At international
level players from Victoria have been chosen to represent
Australia in sporting competitions and events such as the
World Hockey Championships held in the Netherlands in 1998.

Fundraising
Funding for the V.E.W.S.A. activities is generated from
various sources, including membership fees, sponsorships,
raffles and social events such as the Annual Dinner Dance
and individual donations. V.E.W.S.A. is a non-profit organisation
and all donations are tax deductible.
Volunteers
V.E.W.S.A. is organised and run by a group of volunteers
consisting of players, parents, families, friends and supporters.
There is a consistent demand for people to act as umpires,
linespersons, timekeepers and officials as well as assisting
with other off court activities such as transport and event
organising.
